Do you know any of these situations: In winter it is too cold in the living rooms, in summer it is too warm, in the transitional period it never gets really comfortable. The woman is cold, while the man is warm… This is related to the living environment. In this article you will learn how to create a pleasant living climate thanks to the right temperature control.

To understand how to achieve the perfect comfortable climate, we need to dive a bit into the theory of heat transfer. In fact, heat can be transferred in three different ways:

1. conduction: When you touch a warm object, it feels warm because it gives off heat to you.

2. convection/heat flow: this is the principle behind the conventional radiator (for heating) or a classic air conditioner (for cooling). Cold or warm air is distributed in the living spaces.

3. radiation: heat always radiates from a warmer object to a cooler one. The sun can serve as an example. However, not only the hot fireball in the sky radiates heat, but every body radiates heat.

What does this have to do with feel-good climate?

Surely you have already noticed this strange human feeling once: Although the air around you is relatively cold, you feel very comfortable and warmed.

This happens, for example, when you stand in the sun in winter.

On the other hand, you know how you feel cold even though the air around you is relatively warm.

This happens, for example, if you took a shower in an old bathroom heated only by a radiator. Because the walls around you are cold, you radiate too much heat to them and you feel it is cool.

How do we achieve a comfortable climate at home?

Research has long studied the comfort zone for us humans. We feel “pudelwohl” when we do not radiate too much, but also not too little warmth to our environment.

We can best achieve this feel-good effect with surface temperature control – that is, with heating systems and cooling systems that bring the surfaces around us to the ideal temperature.

Depending on the type of heating we achieve our comfort climate better or worse.

This is how the indoor climate changes according to the type of heating

Depending on the type of heating – whether conventional radiator, classic underfloor heating or complete surface temperature control system from floor to ceiling – we achieve better or worse the feel-good climate in our four walls.

These 3 sketches are intended to provide an easy-to-understand comparison of the systems:

ThermoEnergetik-1-300x200

The first sketch shows the effects of a classic radiator system on the indoor climate. While the radiator heats the air to 55 degrees, it must then flow through the room and cools down again.

While you feel it is too hot in one part of the room, you feel cold on the other side of the room. You can read about the other disadvantages of convection (dust, asthma, etc.) in this blog post: Heating & Health: How your comfortable climate protects you from dangerous diseases.

The second sketch shows a classic floor heating. The indoor climate is already perceived as significantly more pleasant. However, there is also a clear difference between the part of the heating supply inlet area and the outlet area (shown on the sketch from left to right). The downward heat dissipation that we humans perceive as ideal also does not take place. Upwards and to the side, the heat dissipation is not in the optimal range – not in our comfort climate.

The third sketch shows a surface temperature control system, like the egger system. It ensures that the floor, wall and ceiling can be kept at the ideal temperature. This allows all parts of the body – including the important head, through which 60 percent of the heat is emitted – to radiate heat perfectly and you feel completely comfortable.

Conclusion: You have to experience it

This is probably the first time you’ve thought about your own experiences related to comfort climate and heating choices. This is the situation for many of our customers.

Especially when these customers go to traditional installers who have not yet arrived in the heating & cooling technology of the 21st century, worlds often collide here. We are aware of that.

That’s why we always say: You have to experience it. And we offer you the experience in the course of a free initial consultation. We lead you to satisfied customers and let you feel the difference yourself.

Therefore, write us an e-mail(kontakt@eggerklima.at) or call us(+43 5223 411 68 11) without any obligation. We will meet with you, show you how it feels in real life and make you a non-binding offer that you can think about at home.
